'Tougher checks' planned for borrowers

The fall-out from mortgage troubles the other side of the Atlantic continues, with more market observers warning that those with bad credit scores could be targeted.
When it comes down to it, the problems overseas mean that the banks essentially have less money to lend, and so are naturally going to be more picky when it comes to borrowers.
What it means for borrowers with bad credit histories is not good news, but the sheer variety of bad credit mortgages on offer mean that many should be able to find some kind of product that works for them.
"Lenders are more interested in how borrowers service their debt than simply whether they have kept up with payments in the past," advised Equifax's Neil Munroe, speaking to This Is Money.
With that kind of change on the cards, it could mean that many more are now looking for help with bad credit - however it's defined.
