quarter of landlords plan to buy more propertyA recent poll by the National Landlords Association (NLA) has established that almost a quarter (23.4 per cent) of its members are planning to buy more property for letting outover the next few years.

Close to 60 per cent of the landlords surveyed by the association said they expect their property holdings to stay the same over the next five years and less than 18 per cent indicated their intention to reduce the number of properties they own.

The NLA suggests that its members perform a "valuable social function" in the UK and has revealed that only 2.4 per cent of respondents to its recent study intend to exit the private rental market during the next half-decade.

Chairman of the NLA David Salusbury commented: "The fall-out from the so-called credit crunch has dominated public attention in recent weeks, but in times of financial uncertainty people continue to need a roof over their heads.

"That landlords are committed to invest further in the private rented sector over the next five years demonstrates that they remain confident about their businesses over the medium term."

Representing the interest of residential landlords in the UK, the NLA insist that its central government lobbying efforts have become "increasingly effective" in recent years.
