Everyone knows that London has seen the strongest price growth over the past few months, but a new study from email4property.co.uk has found that it is Bristol which has seen the next highest levels of growth over the past year.
Prices in the city rose by 9.2 per cent this year in comparison with 2006 figures, according to research from the property portal, but other areas fared less well.
These typically included cities with a high proportion of apartments of flats, such as central Birmingham, which saw prices as a whole fall by 5.5 per cent on the year.
"Since the turn of the century, many of the major towns and cities throughout the country have experienced large-scale regeneration in a bid to shed old images and rebrand in keeping with the capital," noted email4property managing director David Bexon.
"However, in some cases this has led to available housing disproportionate to the requirements of the local demographic," Mr Bexon added.
However, according to the Land Registry, house prices for Birmingham as a whole rose by 3.7 per cent in the 12 months to October 2007.
