Nationwide has been voted the nation's most trusted mortgage lender, according to new research from moneysupermarket.com.
The price comparison website's latest survey has found that 19 per cent of respondents said that Nationwide was their most trusted lender, followed by 13 per cent vouching for NatWest and 11 per cent for Halifax.
Customer service, cited as a key reason behind such choices for 39 per cent of those questioned, is becoming increasingly important in light of current events, according to moneysupermarket.
"Nationwide performed brilliantly – not only clearly outstripping its rivals but also being the only building society in the top ten," revealed Kevin Mountford from moneysupermarket.com.
"The Northern Rock crisis has clearly focused people's minds with service, reputation and lack of problems being uppermost in people's minds – even ahead of product offerings," added Mr Mountford.
The Northern Rock affair came about as a result of the global credit crunch, with the financial turmoil expected to last well into 2008.
